Job summary

IMEG Corp invites applications for a Summer 2027 Structural Engineering Intern position in Madison, WI. You will support analysis, design, and implementation of structural systems for buildings and other structures, working closely with experienced engineers and consultants on real project work.

Over a 10–12 week program, you’ll assist with documentation, coordination, and site observations, gaining hands-on exposure across markets and sustainable design goals.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in BS Civil/Structural Engineering with at least 2 years completed.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic communication skills.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or BIM software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with structural analysis, design, and implementation within project budgets.
  • Contribute to design portions of projects per code and IMEG standards.
  • Support research and resource gathering for ongoing projects.
  • Help maintain client relations and project documentation.
  • Coordinate design and schedules with disciplines (architectural, structural, electrical, etc.).
  • Document design decisions and project progress for records.

IMEG is hiring a Structural Engineering Intern in Madison, WI to support the analysis, design, and implementation of structural systems for buildings and other structures. In this role, you'll work closely with experienced engineers and consultants while gaining hands‑on exposure to project work and structural design processes.

Over a 10‑12 week summer program, you'll assist with project documentation, interdisciplinary coordination, and periodic job site observations while helping the team meet project goals and client expectations within budget. You'll contribute to work across structural, commercial, and institutional markets, contributing to sustainable design goals including SE2050.

What You’ll Do
  • Assist with structural analysis, design, and implementation of structural systems in buildings and other structures while working within the project's monetary budget.
  • Assist with design portions of a project related to discipline systems according to code and IMEG standards.
  • Assist with researching and finding resources with regards to projects.
  • Assist with good client relations, project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent record files.
  • Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical and suppliers.
  • Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and instructions from client promptly while monitoring project design progress.
  • Assist with review of all project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check.
  • Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information.
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and all other services as required by the contract services agreement.
What You’ll Bring
  • Required Education and Experience: Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Skills and Abilities: Strong interest in design consulting. Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook. Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (Building Information Model) software. Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
  • Preferred: Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry.
