Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Morristown, NJ is seeking Engineering Interns to apply standard engineering techniques across the Global Facilities market. You'll assist lead engineers with design updates, data collection and project tasks in a dynamic environment.

You will gain hands-on experience in documentation, data analysis and PowerPoint presentations while supporting multiple market segments and campus involvement. Internship offers exposure to manufacturing facilities and data centers.

Qualifications

  • Pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field from a recognized, accredited program required.
  • ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Active campus or community involvement and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with responses to general questions and ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
  • Participate in continuous improvement by collecting and analyzing data.

Description

Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned. Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments. Please see below for information on each market:

Global Facilities

The Global Facilities group is responsible for the planning and design of manufacturing facilities, district energy systems, data centers and mission-critical facilities. This includes work across diverse industries, including aerospace, space and defense, food and beverage, life sciences and technology, consumer products, healthcare and advanced manufacturing, guiding projects from site selection through startup.

  • Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation and Power Point presentation.
  • Assist with responses to general questions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data.
  • Present solutions to concerns.
  • Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • Pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field from a recognized, accredited program required.
  • ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
Compensation

$19.50-37.00 Hourly
The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location.
