Job summary

Walker Consultants’ Ann Arbor office invites a Structural Engineering Intern to gain hands-on experience in supporting structural design, restoration, and rehabilitation projects. You’ll work with architects, engineers, and project managers from planning through construction administration and field observation.

You will be exposed to structural analysis, BIM modeling, site investigations, and engineering documentation, building safety, and performance.

Qualifications

Actively pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering or Architectural/Engineering Technology.
0-5 years of previous structural design experience.
Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills with clients, consultants, architects, and engineers.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Reliable access to a personal vehicle is required for the duration of employment

Responsibilities

Work directly with Project Engineers and Project Managers to develop project designs, calculations, and construction documents.
Prepare and revise drawings and documentation throughout various phases of design, including plans, elevations, sections, and details.
Utilize BIM technology (Revit) to develop and coordinate 3D building models.
Perform structural design calculations and detailing for building structures, foundations, and retaining systems.
Interpret and apply building codes, industry standards, and project requirements.
Assist with project coordination, internal team meetings, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Review construction phase documentation, shop drawings, and project submittals.
Participate in field investigations, site visits, and construction observations to document existing conditions and construction progress.
Support the preparation of engineering reports, calculations, and technical documentation.
Perform other duties as assigned
