Job summary

HDR is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 in Bellevue, WA. You'll gain real-world experience on building projects and work with a multidisciplinary team of architects, MEP, and structural engineers to support design development.

You will apply engineering techniques, use industry software, and participate in project meetings, design reviews, and site visits. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and basic Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Familiarity with software packages relevant to engineering practice.
  • Preference for 2 years completed toward degree with GPA 3.0+.
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, SketchUp or similar tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Gain real-world experience on exciting projects.
  • Participate in mentoring and networking with peers and leaders.
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Perform assignments under the supervision of a Project Manager.
  • Support multidisciplinary project teams in planning, design and delivery.
  • Assist with drawings, models, renderings, specifications and construction documents.
  • Collaborate with architects, mechanical, electrical, structural and other design professionals.
  • Participate in project meetings, design reviews and site visits.
  • Conduct research on building systems, codes, sustainability initiatives and emerging technologies.
  • Utilize industry-standard software and digital tools to support project development.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
  • Internship is for Summer 2027.

In the role of Structural Engineering Intern, we'll count on you to:

  • Gain real-world experience on exciting projects
  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals programs
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager
  • Support multidisciplinary project teams in the planning, design, and delivery of building projects
  • Assist with the preparation of drawings, models, renderings, specifications, and construction documents
  • Collaborate with architects, mechanical, electrical, structural, plumbing, and other design professionals
  • Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and site visits
  • Conduct research on building systems, codes, sustainability initiatives, and emerging technologies
  • Utilize industry-standard software and digital tools to support project development
  • Perform other duties as needed
  • Internship is for Summer 2027

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, SketchUp, or other design software is a plus
