HDR, a leading employee-owned firm, invites you to join as a Mechanical Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. You’ll gain real-world experience on exciting building projects and connect with mentors across engineering disciplines.

You will apply standard engineering techniques, support design teams with drawings and models, and participate in meetings, site visits, and research into sustainable technologies.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • Attention to detail required.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills essential.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills expected.

Responsibilities

  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Perform assignments under supervision of a professional or Project Manager.
  • Support multidisciplinary project teams in planning, design, and delivery of building projects.
  • Assist with preparation of drawings, models, renderings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Collaborate with architects and other design professionals.
  • Participate in design reviews, meetings, and site visits.
  • Research building systems, codes, sustainability initiatives, and emerging technologies.

In the role of Mechanical Engineering Intern, we'll count on you to:

  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager
  • Support multidisciplinary project teams in the planning, design, and delivery of building projects.
  • Assist with the preparation of drawings, models, renderings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Collaborate with architects, mechanical, electrical, structural, plumbing, and other design professionals.
  • Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and site visits.
  • Conduct research on building systems, codes, sustainability initiatives, and emerging technologies.
  • Utilize industry-standard software and digital tools to support project development.
  • Perform other duties as needed
  • Internship is for Summer 2027
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, SketchUp, or other design software is a plus.
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Attention to detail
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
