Job summary

HDR is seeking a Building Structural Engineering Intern to gain real-world experience on projects spanning buildings, foundations, and water-bearing structures. You will perform load calculations, analysis, and drawings under supervision, while engaging with mentors and leaders through formal programs.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate engineering program, with strong problem-solving and communication skills and a willingness to contribute to our employee-owned

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Responsibilities

  • Gain real-world experience on exciting projects including buildings, existing structures, water-bearing structures, foundations, light industrial, and other types of facilities.
  • Tasks include load calculations, analysis, design, spreadsheet development, drawing production, fabrication/shop drawing review, site observations, and other duties as needed.
  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals programs.
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of an engineer or project manager.

In the role of Building Structural Engineering Intern, we'll count on you to:

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA

Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry including Microsoft Excel, Revit, RISA, RAM, and STAAD

Preference given to local candidates

Structural steel and/or concrete design coursework completed

Prefer current enrollment in civil, structural, or architectural engineering program

Enthusiasm to learn and develop within the field of structural engineering

Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
