AECOM’s Buildings + Places group is seeking a Structural Engineering Co-op to be based in Boston, MA. This internship offers exposure to a wide variety of vertical structural engineering projects with a Boston team and US EAST region.

Interns gain hands-on experience in engineering, design, and infrastructure projects, working with cutting-edge technology and experienced professionals in a global firm. The program emphasizes skill development and real-world impact.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field with at least two years completed.
  • Recent grads eligible if enrolled to pursue an advanced degree later.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Builds analytical and design structural models under supervision of an experienced structural engineer.
  • Conducts engineering design under supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under supervision.
  • Collects and analyzes data under supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Participates in site investigation, construction progress, and other site visits with an experienced engineer.
  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
  • Performs work in accordance with budget and schedule under supervision.

Job Description

AECOM’s Buildings + Places business line is seeking a Structural Engineering Co-op to be based in Boston, MA.

This position is a great opportunity to get exposure to a wide variety of vertical structural engineering projects of all material types and sizes. You will be working with a Boston-based team alongside a greater US EAST region. Our group services projects and clients across North America and around the globe.

Internships at AECOM offer students in undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in engineering, design, and infrastructure projects that make a real-world impact. This position is expected to begin in January 2027.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Builds analytical and design structural models under supervision of an experienced structural engineer.

  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.
Qualifications
  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or in another related fieldand must have completed at least 2years of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Revit is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Additional Information
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Boston, MA. The selected candidate must be available to work in Boston, MAon a scheduled basis.
