Job summary

Pickett, an ESP Associates company, is seeking a PE-licensed Civil/Structural Engineer to lead structural design and analysis for substation and transmission projects. This hybrid role requires expertise in lattice towers, monopoles, wood poles, and related structures, with strong proficiency in PLS-TOWER, STAAD, and RISA.

You will collaborate with civil, electrical, and geotechnical teams, support field inspections, and contribute to proposals and deliverables while upholding safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (required).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license (required).
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in substation and/or transmission structural engineering.
• Proven experience with lattice towers, monopoles, wood poles, and/or specialty structures.
• Experience performing analysis and retrofit design of existing lattice towers.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software including PLS-TOWER, PLS-POLE, STAAD, and RISA.
• Proficiency in foundation design software including LPILE, MFAD, HFAD, and TFAD, along with strong capability in Mathcad and Excel-based engineering calculations.
• Working knowledge of ASCE, AISC, ACI, NESC, and IEEE.

Responsibilities

• Structural design and analysis of substation structures including dead-end structures and bus supports.
• Design and analysis of transmission structures such as lattice towers, monopoles, wood poles, and specialty structures.
• Retrofitting existing lattice towers with capacity assessments and reinforcement solutions.
• Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, and specs per ASCE, AISC, ACI, IEEE, NESC.
• Modeling with PLS-TOWER, PLS-POLE, STAAD, and RISA.
• Foundation design with LPILE, MFAD, HFAD, TFAD; supported by Mathcad/Excel.
• Design drilled shafts, spread footings, anchors, direct-embedded pole foundations.
• Review vendor calculations and drawings.
• Coordinate with fabrication and construction teams.
• Collaborate with civil, electrical, geotechnical engineers for integrated design.
• Field support including site visits and structural inspections.
• Contribute to proposals and engineering deliverables as needed.
