Job summary

Vestal Corporation in the United States seeks a Senior Structural Engineer to lead structural design on key projects, and provide peer review support across the portfolio.

The role requires a PE or ability to obtain one, 5+ years of experience, and expertise with structural software such as RAMSTEEL/FRAME, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE and related tools. Revit familiarity is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering is required.
  • Professional Engineer License, or the ability to obtain, is required; SE preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience is required.
  • Familiarity with REVIT is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural design on assigned projects and provide peer review on others.
  • Design structures for ground-up, industrial, commercial and healthcare facilities.
  • Develop design packages using Vestal’s engineering software.
  • Ensure compliance with current codes and standards.
  • Assign loads and perform structural analyses for steel and concrete systems.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Lead CAD/Designers, and engineers.
  • Mentor junior engineers and maintain project documentation.
  • Review contractor submittals and respond to RFIs during construction.
  • Conduct site visits and participate in pre-design field investigations.

Job description

Job Summary:

The Senior Structural Engineer will function as the lead Structural Engineer on assigned projects and will also provide assistance and peer review on other projects.

JOB DUTIES:
  • Design structures – ground-up, industrial buildings/facilities, commercial buildings, and healthcare facilities.
  • Develop strong knowledge and utilize the engineering software used by Vestal (see list below) for the development of design packages.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of the latest codes and standards.
  • Assign/determine all appropriate loads to structures based on project and code requirements.
  • Drive projects toward efficient and cost-effective designs.
  • Perform structural analysis on steel and concrete structural systems.
  • Design and/or analyze structural systems for local seismic requirements where applicable. Research seismic requirements for specific locations.
  • Learn and implement Lean design principles.
  • Maintain files of calculations and structural documentation on projects where assigned as structural engineer.
  • Interface directly with project Lead CAD/Designers, engineers, and Project Managers to develop and coordinate structural system general arrangements and system details.
  • Lead in design and construction using all structural materials and systems.
  • Review of contractors’ submittals and response to Requests for Information (RFIs) during construction.
  • Site visits for pre-design field investigations and/or construction observations as required.
  • Develop probable construction cost.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers.
  • Follow construction safety guidelines.
  • Comply with Company’s Quality Control and Project Management procedures.
  • Promote a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization’s goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a Vestal Corporation office.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and able to operate a computer and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to move about the office to access office equipment and other office buildings within the Vestal office complex.
  • This position frequently communicates with others and must be able to exchange accurate information.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering is required.
  • Professional Engineer License, or the ability to obtain, is required. SE Preferred.
