HBC Engineering Company has an immediate opening for a Structural Engineer, PE, to support advisory services, structural design, specifications, drawings, and schedules for transportation infrastructure projects. This role works closely with clients, contractors, and internal teams while helping lead bridge and miscellaneous structures assignments across Florida.

Job Summary

The Structural Engineer, PE will represent HBC in technical meetings, manage structural design tasks, and provide guidance to junior staff while supporting clients from concept development through construction. Key Responsibilities
  • Manage complex transportation and structural engineering projects with a proactive approach that adapts to changing project conditions
  • Serve as a client liaison and represent HBC in technical meetings with clients, contractors, municipalities, utility companies, and regulatory agencies
  • Coordinate subconsultants and the acquisition of project information needed to advance transportation and structures assignments
  • Develop design concepts, criteria, engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and schedules for structural deliverables
  • Lead highway bridge and miscellaneous structures design efforts in coordination with client and contractor partners
  • Support bridge inspection, maintenance evaluations, and related structural advisory services
  • Prepare contract documents, including plans and specifications, as well as permit and approval applications
  • Provide bid-phase support and post-design engineering services during construction
  • Apply independent judgment to field design changes and recommendations while managing multiple active projects at one time
  • Supervise junior staff and provide technical and professional guidance that supports their development
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is preferred
  • 5 to 20 years of experience on FDOT or other state transportation agency projects is required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Florida is required
  • Extensive experience managing complex multi-discipline projects
  • Proven client liaison skills with strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Knowledge of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria used in transportation and structural engineering design
  • Mathcad experience is a plus
  • AutoCAD or Civil 3D experience is required, and MicroStation experience is desired
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to work on multiple projects, adapt to changing scenarios, and make sound recommendations on field design changes
