Job summary

Dennis Group in Austin, TX is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer to apply extensive knowledge of materials and construction techniques, perform hand calculations, and develop computer models for structural design tasks. You will determine building codes and site amendments while coordinating with disciplines.

The role involves drafting, reviewing submittals, and conducting field inspections, with opportunities to grow within the team. Travel up to 15 days per year may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• 0-3 years of relevant structural experience or schooling in industrial/commercial buildings.
• 0-3 years of experience or schooling creating analysis models for structural designs.
• 0-3 years of experience or schooling in drafting sketches, contract drawings, specs using AutoCAD and Revit.
• RAM Structural System and RAM Elements knowledge is a plus.
• EIT/FE desirable.
• Strong planning and organizational skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 15 days per year.

• Perform hand calculations and create computer analysis models for structural design tasks.
• Determine the correct building code
• Locate any local or site-specific amendments to the building code
• Document gravity design loads, wind design loads, and seismic design loads
• Work with and design common structural framing systems (steel, composite steel, joists)
• Work with and design common foundations systems (Spread footings, drilled piers)
• Estimate foundation types & sizes and preliminary steel sizes
• Coordinate structural work with other disciplines
• Review geotechnical reports
• Design mat slabs for process tanks, vessels, and silos
• Design pipe bridges
• Perform take offs from structural plans
• Contact potential bidders for preliminary budget estimates
• Field measure existing structures to gather necessary information

• Detailed planning and organization skills.
• Experience with structural analysis software
• Ability to travel to project sites as needed (15 days a year)

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift-up to 15 pounds at times.
