Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Experience in structural engineering or related building design.
  • EIT certification is required; pursuing PE licensure is acceptable.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and CAD/Revit software.
  • Strong communication and ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design for building systems and related infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare structural calculations, technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Assist with development of design concepts and engineering solutions.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, clients, and project stakeholders.
  • Support project managers with schedules, budgets, and deliverable quality.
  • Conduct site visits, field investigations, and construction observation as needed.
  • Ensure designs comply with building codes and client requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality projects.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and professional development.

Structural Engineer – Building Systems – ms consultants, inc. (Columbus, OH)

At ms consultants, we are passionate about delivering innovative engineering solutions that positively impact the communities we serve. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Structural Engineer to join our Building Systems team in Columbus, Ohio. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of structural design projects while collaborating with experienced professionals in a supportive and growth-oriented environment.

As a Structural Engineer, you will contribute to the design and analysis of building systems for commercial, institutional, industrial, and public‑sector projects. You will work closely with project managers, architects, and multidisciplinary teams to develop creative, practical, and code‑compliant solutions for our clients.

Our Building Systems Business Unit delivers architecture, engineering, and planning consulting services to a diverse range of clients, spanning from multi‑unit retail spaces to schools, municipal facilities, fairgrounds, industrial sites, commercial interiors, and urban redevelopment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis and design for building systems and related infrastructure projects
  • Prepare structural calculations, technical reports, construction drawings, and specifications
  • Assist with the development of design concepts and engineering solutions for new and existing structures
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, clients, and other project stakeholders throughout all project phases
  • Support project managers in maintaining project schedules, budgets, and deliverable quality
  • Conduct site visits, field investigations, and construction observation as needed
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, industry standards, and client requirements
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful projects and high‑quality client service
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and professional development opportunities
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited college or university
  • Experience in structural engineering or related building design required
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification required; actively pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or have successfully passed the PE exam
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and design software
  • Proficiency in structural drafting software; experience with CAD and Revit is strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes and structural design standards
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and time‑management abilities
