Job description

Company

We are a leading national design-build engineering and construction company specializing in some of the most complex building systems and technical facilities in the country. We bring engineering, BIM/VDC, fabrication, and construction together under one organization, giving engineers the opportunity to work beyond traditional design and see their ideas carried all the way through fabrication and installation.

For structural engineers, this creates a particularly unique environment. Rather than working exclusively within a traditional structural consulting model, you will collaborate directly with mechanical engineers, designers, BIM/VDC specialists, fabrication teams, construction managers, and field personnel. The resulting is greater exposure to how structural designs are coordinated, fabricated, installed, and ultimately perform in the field.

Our projects span healthcare, advanced technology, mission-critical, commercial and industrial facilities, creating challenging structural applications involving seismic design, structural steel, equipment supports, pipe racks, equipment platforms, anchorage systems, and prefabricated assemblies.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Structural Engineer who wants to take their structural expertise beyond the traditional consulting environment and work directly alongside the teams that coordinate, fabricate, and construct their designs.

This is a unique opportunity for a structural engineer who enjoys steel design, seismic engineering, equipment anchorage, structural analysis and complex problem-solving but wants greater exposure to how engineering decisions translate into the real world construction.

We deliver highly complex building systems for major healthcare, advanced technology, mission-critical, commercial and industrial facilities. Structural engineers play an important role in making these systems possible through the design of structural steel frames, equipment platforms, seismic restraint systems, pipe racks, rooftop equipment supports, anchorage systems and modular assemblies.

Unlike a traditional structural consulting environment this position provides the opportunity to work directly with engineering, BIM/VDC, fabrication, construction and field teams and see designs move from analysis and modeling through fabrication and installation.

What Makes This Opportunity Different

For a structural engineer coming from a traditional structural consulting firm we offers the opportunity to become much closer to the entire life‑cycle of a design.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Perform meaningful structural analysis and design while working within a highly collaborative design‑build environment
  • Solve challenging structural problems involving steel, seismic forces, anchorage, vibration, equipment loads and existing structures
  • Work on highly technical facilities where structural engineering directly affects the performance of major building systems
  • Collaborate directly with the people who fabricate and install your designs
  • Participate in constructability decisions and understand how design choices affect cost, schedule, fabrication and installation
  • Work within sophisticated BIM/VDC and prefabrication workflows
  • See engineering solutions move from calculations and models to fabricated components and completed installations
  • Develop broader design‑build and construction knowledge that can be difficult to gain in a conventional structural engineering office
  • This is an excellent opportunity for a structural engineer who wants to remain technically focused while gaining significantly more exposure to construction, fabrication, interdisciplinary design and project delivery.

Perform structural analysis and design for a diverse range of systems, including:

  • Mechanical equipment support structures
  • Pipe racks and piping support systems
  • Equipment platforms and access structures
  • Rooftop equipment and HVAC support framing
  • Seismic bracing and restraint systems
  • Equipment and structural anchorage systems
  • Modular and prefabricated assemblies
  • Supports for chilled water, hot water, steam, condenser water, medical gas and industrial piping systems

Analyze structural loading conditions including:

  • Dead and live loads
  • Wind loads
  • Seismic forces
  • Thermal expansion loads
  • Vibration and dynamic impacts from rotating equipment

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Prepare structural calculations, engineering reports, specifications and construction documents
  • Evaluate existing structures for new equipment, renovations and retrofit projects
  • Design steel framing, supports and anchorage systems
  • Perform seismic restraint calculations for projects in high‑seismic regions
  • Apply IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, SMACNA, NFPA, HCAI/OSHPD and applicable local requirements
  • Coordinate permitting and engineering review requirements

One of the most compelling aspects of this position is the ability to work beyond the traditional boundaries of structural design. You will collaborate with mechanical engineers, piping designers, HVAC engineers, BIM/VDC specialists, fabrication teams, construction managers and field personnel to develop solutions that are both structurally sound and practical to build.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Participate in multidisciplinary design and constructability reviews
  • Coordinate structural requirements with mechanical equipment, piping, ductwork and building structures
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, submittals and fabrication models
  • Support BIM coordination and clash detection
  • Work with fabrication teams to optimiza structural assemblies
  • Support installation troubleshooting and field modifications
  • Conduct site visits and field investigations
  • Help develop prefabricated and modular structural support solutions
Technology & Engineering Tools

Depending on the project requirements you may work with structural analysis, design and coordination platforms including:

  • RISA
  • STAAD.Pro
  • RAM Structural System
  • Revit
  • AutoCAD
  • Navisworks
  • BIM/VDC coordination platforms
Qualifications

We are interested in structural engineers from structural consulting, engineering design, design‑build, industrial, commercial or construction‑oriented environments.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis
  • Approximately 3–10+ years of structural engineering experience
  • Strong foundation in structural analysis and design
  • Experience with structural steel design
  • Knowledge of seismic engineering and ASCE 7
  • Understanding of anchorage and connection design
  • Ability to evaluate loads and develop practical structural solutions
  • Experience with structural analysis and modelling software
  • Strong understanding of applicable building codes and structural standards
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines
  • Mechanical contracting experience is not required for the right structural engineer
