Job purpose

The Structural Engineer applies fundamental structural engineering concepts to gather and analyze data, interpret standards, and support project specialists in the assessment, design, review, and implementation of construction projects. This role is crucial for ensuring high-quality standards and monitoring progress within the Nexus Response Mechanism's infrastructure component in Syria, which focuses on rehabilitating water supply and irrigation systems to strengthen resilience and support sustainable recovery.

Responsibilities

The Structural Engineer will contribute to the design and analysis of structural components for infrastructure projects, including potable water supply and irrigation systems. This involves preparing and reviewing design briefs, reports, calculations, specifications, and bills of quantities according to international standards. The role includes providing structural assessment and technical support, conducting site inspections, and ensuring quality assurance and control protocols are followed. Additionally, the engineer will coordinate with other disciplines, liaise with clients, and prepare inputs for project reports, ensuring timely delivery of tasks within cost and quality parameters.

Education

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil/Structural Engineering is required, along with at least two years of relevant experience. Project Management Certificates are considered desirable.

Work experience

A minimum of two years of practical civil engineering experience is required. Experience with UN or humanitarian/development agencies, proficiency in structural analysis software, and experience with water supply or irrigation infrastructure are desirable.
