Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a licensed engineer to lead design and engineering efforts on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection systems at Fort Worth locations. Responsibilities include complex modeling, on-site surveys, coordinating with project teams, and ensuring code compliance.

Mentors junior engineers and supports RFIs and estimating. Qualifications include a four-year engineering degree, 3+ years’ experience, and a PE preferred; CAD and MS Office skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Four-year engineering degree required; PE preferred.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in design and analysis.
• Strong ability to read construction documents and communicate technically.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex modeling, drawings and specifications for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or fire protection.
• Perform calculations for heating/cooling loads, sizing, friction/hydraulic calculations.
• Prepare redline design layouts for estimating and project delivery.
• Provide guidance to less experienced engineers and perform on-site surveys.
• Assist in RFIs and ensure code compliance.

Job description

Position Summary

Lead, evaluate, design, and engineer projects and systems to specification on projects ranging from new design/build to rehabilitation of existing facilities and systems. Provide ongoing technical guidance and engineering issue resolution as needed.

Position Details

• Performs more complex modeling, drawings and specifications related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection or other systems
• Performs more complex calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, hydraulic calculations, etc.
• Prepares preliminary redline design layouts for estimating
• May be responsible for a single phase of a project
• Provides guidance to less experienced engineers
• Performs on-site field surveys to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
• Assists in writing technical narratives and responses to RFIs
• Responsible for Code compliance

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Engineering or related field
• PE License preferred
• Minimum 3 years’ experience
• Basic knowledge of applicable systems design, such as fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc., as well as general understanding of system operations.
• Ability to read construction documents.
• Strong verbal and written technical communication skills
• Strong computer skills, including CADD and Microsoft Office Products, such as Excel
