Job summary

Southland Industries Inc. is seeking an experienced engineer to lead design and engineering of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection systems on design/build and rehab projects.

You will supervise complex modeling, calculations, field surveys, and provide guidance to junior engineers while ensuring code compliance and high-quality documentation. Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Engineering or related field.
• PE license preferred.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience.
• Basic knowledge of systems design (fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, electrical).
• Ability to read construction documents.
• Strong verbal and written technical communication skills.
• Strong computer skills, including CAD and MS Office (Excel).

Responsibilities

• Lead complex modeling, drawings and specifications for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or fire protection systems.
• Perform complex calculations (loads, sizing, friction, hydraulics).
• Prepare preliminary redline design layouts for estimating.
• May be responsible for a single project phase and mentor junior engineers.
• Conduct on-site field surveys to collect design data.
• Assist in writing technical narratives and RFIs.
• Ensure code compliance.

Position Summary

Lead, evaluate, design, and engineer projects and systems to specification on projects ranging from new design/build to rehabilitation of existing facilities and systems. Provide ongoing technical guidance and engineering issue resolution as needed.

Position Details

• Performs more complex modeling, drawings and specifications related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection or other systems
• Performs more complex calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, hydraulic calculations, etc.
• Prepares preliminary redline design layouts for estimating
• May be responsible for a single phase of a project
• Provides guidance to less experienced engineers
• Performs on-site field surveys to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
• Assists in writing technical narratives and responses to RFIs
• Responsible for Code compliance

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Engineering or related field
• PE License preferred
• Minimum 3 years’ experience
• Basic knowledge of applicable systems design, such as fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc., as well as general understanding of system operations.
• Ability to read construction documents.
• Strong verbal and written technical communication skills
• Strong computer skills, including CADD and Microsoft Office Products, such as Excel
