Bridge Engineer

For our Structures team, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive inspections of in-service bridges and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards. You must possess a valid NBIS Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges certification and an active P.E. to qualify for this role.

Responsibilities

1. Perform detailed inspections of bridges and transportation related structures in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and other relevant guidelines.
2. Evaluate the condition and structural integrity of bridges, including substructures, superstructures, and related components.
3. Identify and document deficiencies, deterioration, or damage to bridge elements, including decks, beams, abutments, piers, and foundations.
4. Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) and structural analysis to assess bridge performance and recommend appropriate maintenance or repair actions.
5. Prepare accurate and comprehensive inspection reports detailing findings, recommendations, and proposed solutions.
6. Collaborate with design and engineering teams to develop repair plans and specifications for bridge rehabilitation or replacement projects.
7. Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in bridge inspection technologies, methodologies, and industry best practices.

Required Skills and Experience

1. Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
2. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.).
3. Minimum of Five (5) years of experience in structural inspection with a focus on bridges.
4. Valid NBIS Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges certificate.
5. Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to various work sites within North Carolina.
6. In-depth knowledge of National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS), AASHTO guidelines, and relevant federal and state regulations.
7. Proficiency in using bridge inspection software and tools for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
8. Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and familiarity with various bridge types and construction materials.
9. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to assess bridge conditions accurately and propose effective solutions.
10. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, plans, and specifications related to bridge construction and repair.
11. Proven leadership abilities to mentor and guide junior bridge inspectors.
