CREC is seeking a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse for the Strive Program in Clinton, CT to provide care for ill and medically fragile students and to act as a health resource for families, teachers, and staff.

Under the direction of a registered nurse, the LPN will implement care plans, conduct screenings, support IEP-related health needs, document confidential records, and respond to emergencies while helping remove health barriers to learning.

Qualifications

  • Current LPN Connecticut license.
  • One year recent acute care experience preferred; school nursing desirable.
  • Excellent communication with students, families, and staff; CPR certified.

Job description

CREC is expanding its team of Licensed Practical Nurses in our Strive Program in Clinton.
We are currently seeking a full time licensed practical nurse to provide appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students; providing health information and serving as a resource to parents, teachers, staff, and administrators; and identifying health problems for referral for proper treatment while working within their scope of practice and under the direction of a registered nurse within the building or the Assistant Director of Health Service in a nurse's absence facilitate and strengthen the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of children and by identifying and assisting in the removal or modification of health-related barriers to the learning process for each child. JOB DUTIES INCLUDE (but Not Limited To)
  • Administers mandated screenings (e.g. vision, postural, hearing, etc.)
  • Assesses situations involving students' safety, abuse (physical, sexual, drug, etc.) and other health related issues.
  • Counsels students and families on health conditions and lifestyle issues.
  • Implements the health care plans developed by the registered nurse for students with IEP and emergency care plans.
  • Maintains contact with parents/guardians for the purpose of advising them of changes in student health.
  • Maintains student's confidential files and records required by legal requirements and professional standards.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and seminars, Individual Educational Plan meetings, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Provides care to students with chronic illnesses and extremely high-risk students.
  • Provides training on a variety of health related subjects for the purpose of promoting a healthy lifestyle and/or acting as a resource to students, teachers, and other school personnel.
  • Refers students requiring additional medical attention for the purpose of providing required follow-up treatment and services.
  • Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies.
  • Researches a variety of topics relating to health and medical care.
  • Responds to emergency medical situations.
  • Adheres to all applicable professional safety standards and practices within their scope as an LPN, including requirements set forth in federal and state law, and Occupational Safety and Health regulations.
  • Reports to a registered nurse to receive appropriate direction of care for a student.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
Education: Community College and/or Vocational School degree with study in job related area.
Licensure: Current LPN Connecticut license.
Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required. Emergency Department or Critical Care experience preferred. One year recent acute care experience preferred. Previous school nursing desirable.
Other Job Requirements
Ability to communicate appropriately with students, parents, school staff, and CREC staff is required. Demonstration of interpersonal skills necessary for communication with media, visitors, and community partnership representatives required.
Assigned hours and location within your shift, starting time, or days of work are subject to change based on departmental and/or organizational needs.
