Make an impact in the community by joining the Stormwater Team. The Stormwater Division is responsible for managing and improving our local water resources as we work to reduce pollution, prevent flooding, and ensure clean waterways.
The Sweeping and Drainage team is looking to hire a Streets Technician I who will receive training and development in street sweeping and drainage system maintenance. This position will work under the direction of the Foreman and conduct unskilled to semi-skilled work in support of the Stormwater Division.
Total Compensation Package
112 hours paid vacation + 10 sick days + 12 paid holidays per year

Essential Required Tasks/Examples Of Duties
- Clean and maintain shop building and grounds
- Assist in the operation of snowplows during inclement weather
- Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards
- Use hand tools to complete maintenance work
- Acquire knowledge and practical experience in the field
- Assist with all other maintenance activities as assigned
- Removal of debris and trash including weed eradication
- Storm drainage cleaning and grate repair
- Maintain and repair drop inlets
- Maintain drainage channels
- Ditch and open drainage maintenance and repair including concrete ditches
- Street sweeping
- Maintain and replace side brooms and main brooms
- Conduct inspections of channels and drainage areas and sweeping areas for remediation, fixing, or reporting
- Respond to requests of drainage issues
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent - required
Experience
- None
- Some experience in street maintenance - preferred
Necessary Special Requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry, DMV check, and pre-placement physical and drug screen.
Certifications - required with 6 months of hire
- Class B Commercial Driver’s license with air brake and tanker endorsement
- Flagger’s Certification
Working Conditions
- Work involves on-call duty which requires working weekends on a rotating basis and working all hours during emergency repairs as needed.
- Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with some weekend and holiday work required
- Required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- Required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Required to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
- Required to talk or hear; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; bend or twist from the upper body; use hands and/or feet to perform manual tasks such as digging; push or pull; reach with hands and arms; squat; stoop; crouch; and climb or balance
- Physical demands are described as Very Heavy Work (Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects)
- Requires walking or standing to a significant degree
- Work near moving mechanical parts
- Work in year-round outdoor weather conditions
- Use hand tools to complete maintenance work

The salary range for Streets Technician I is $22.72 - $27.76/hour depending on relevant experience. If selected, what are your salary requirements?

This position is regularly scheduled 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday in the Winter and 6:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday - Thursday. This schedule will change on a long or short-term basis at any time as needed for coverage, scheduled on-call duty and snow control coverage. This will include evenings, weekends and holidays. This is a requirement of the job and is not optional. Are you willing and available to work a schedule that requires this type of flexibility?

This position requires the ability to perform manual labor, including heavy lifting, standing, and climbing in and out of large equipment/vehicles for extended periods of time under all weather conditions. Also, the person hired may have to work around dust, weeds, paint, and some chemicals. Can you perform the job duties under these working conditions?
