Make an impact in the community by joining the Streets Team. The Streets Division is responsible for the maintenance of over 285 miles of roadway, including: street sweeping more than 4,000 miles annually, 75,000 lbs. of crack sealing annually, and more.
The Traffic Control team is currently looking for Full-time Streets Technicians at level I, II, or III (depending on qualifications/experience). Please see the Minimum Qualifications section below detailing the training/experience required.
Total Compensation Package
- 112 hours paid vacation + 10 sick days + 12 paid holidays per year

Level and pay are dependent on qualifications:
- Technician I Salary Range: $22.72 - $27.76/hour
- Technician II Salary Range: $26.98 - $32.97/hour
- Technician III Salary Range: $31.26 - $42.30/hour
Essential Required Tasks/Examples Of Duties
Technician I
- Assists with sign preparation, installation, and repair
- Assists in street striping and installation of street markings
- Assists in emergency road closures
- Operates and performs preventive maintenance and routine repairs on equipment
- Cleans and maintains shop building and grounds
- Assists in the operation of snowplows during inclement weather
- Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards
- Uses hand tools to complete maintenance work
- Acquires knowledge and practical experience in the field
- Assists with all other Traffic Control maintenance activities as assigned
Technician II
- Performs maintenance activities with little supervision
- Performs locates
- Completes new work orders per Traffic Engineer and completes proper documentation
- Acts as a troubleshooter to resolve problems within a particular area of assignment
- May work as a field crew leader
Technician III
- Under the direction of the Streets Foreman, complete daily and weekly work schedules
- May assume responsibility for division activities during the absence of a Foreman
- Provides on-the-job instruction and orientation to lower-level personnel as assigned
- Assists in major maintenance and repairs to division equipment
- Supervise contractual work at the direction of Streets Foreman
- Works with foreman to plan out special events
- Coordinates with other departments for Signage needs
- Develops work zone traffic control plans
Minimum Qualifications
Ideal Candidate
- High school graduate (or equivalent)
- Skilled in critical thinking and the ability to problem solve
- Able and willing to work on-call duty which requires working weekends on a rotating basis and working all hours during emergency repairs as needed
- Basic office computer skills
- IMSA certifications preferred
Experience
- Technician I: No experience required. Manual labor or similar experience preferred.
- Technician II: At least 2 years of experience in street maintenance required. Experience in traffic control/signs and road markings maintenance preferred.
- Technician III: At least 3 years of experience in street maintenance required. Experience in traffic control/signs and road markings maintenance preferred. Some lead experience preferred.
Certifications & Other Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record for continued employment.
- Must pass all pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes including interview, reference checks, background checks including police check and sex-offender registry check, driving record check through DMV, pre-employment physical, substance abuse screening test, and background check required by DOT regulations.
- Subject to random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident alcohol and substance abuse testing as required by law
Technician I And II
- Must obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s license Class B with air brake and tanker endorsement within six months of employment.
- Must obtain a Flagger’s Certification (ATTSA, CIRSA, or equivalent) within six months of employment.
- Must obtain a Work Zone Safety (ATTSA, IMSA, or equivalent) within one year of employment.
Technician III
- Must have a valid Flagger’s Certification and Work Zone Safety Certification at time of hire
- Must obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s license Class A with air brake and tanker endorsement within six months of employment.
Working Conditions
- Work involves on-call duty which requires working weekends on a rotating basis and working all hours during emergency repairs as needed.
- Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with some weekend and holiday work required.
- Physical demands are described as Very Heavy Work (Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects).
- Requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
- Work near moving mechanical parts in year-round outdoor weather conditions.
