Job summary

The City of Garland is seeking an Assistant Director for Streets to lead the Street Department, overseeing street maintenance, construction, equipment and stormwater maintenance, and asset management of pavement and drainage infrastructure.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, 8 years of public works experience, 4 years of supervisory leadership, and a Texas PE license or eligibility within 6 months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in engineering, construction management, public administration, or related field.
• 8 years of professional public works design, construction, or project management experience.
• 4 years of management experience in local government preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, strategic direction, and management of the Street Department.
• Formulate and implement policies, procedures, and strategies aligned with city priorities.
• Select, train, evaluate, and supervise staff across professional, technical, and field roles.
• Oversee resources, operations and logistics to ensure service excellence.
• Develop annual operating and CIP budgets and forecast expenditures.
