The Streets Maintenance Operator (levels I - III) is a non-exempt, hourly position responsible for operating various equipment in the maintenance, repair, and construction of streets, storm drainage, and snow removal for the Public Works Department.

Note: A background check, pre-employment physical, and drug/alcohol screening are required before starting.

Schedule: Summer - 4 ten-hour days (Monday-Thursday). Winter - 5 eight-hour days (schedule varies). Expected start date: approximately June 2nd, 2025.

There are three levels: I, II, and III. Offers are based on interview and experience. Details are as follows:

We offer a $2,000 hiring bonus for CDL holders, paid in two installments: $1,000 after 30 days and $1,000 after one year of service. Eligibility requires being a new or rehire who was separated for at least 12 months. This program is subject to change at any time.

Responsibilities:
  • Operate town equipment including motor grader, dump truck, wheel loader, and others.
  • Handle basic maintenance of equipment.
  • Perform street, bike path, storm sewer, and sign maintenance.
  • During winter, manage snow removal on streets, sidewalks, and parking areas.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Assist in constructing and erecting traffic signage and perform traffic control with proper signage and flagging.
  • Ensure safety standards are met and report issues promptly.
  • Conduct preventative inspections and assist in training seasonal staff.
  • Support town events with setup, teardown, and street cleaning tasks.
Level Responsibilities:

Details vary by level, including operating different equipment, performing traffic control, constructing street repairs, and mentoring staff. Specific requirements for each level are outlined in the detailed responsibilities section.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • CDL Class B with tanker endorsement required for higher levels.
  • Experience ranges from less than 2 years to over 5 years, depending on level.
  • Knowledge of municipal public works operations preferred at higher levels.
Physical and Other Requirements:

Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, operate equipment safely, and work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must pass background checks and drug testing. Specific physical demands and vision requirements are detailed in the job description.
