The City of Murphy Public Works Department seeks to add a Maintenance Worker I to its dynamic team! As our Maintenance Worker I, under the direct supervision of the Public Works Superintendent, you will perform routine and repetitive tasks to maintain and repair City streets, roads, bridges, medians, right of ways, gutters, curbs, sidewalks, alleys, and other public areas within the City.

Schedule Commitment

This is a full-time, non-exempt position that works a standard schedule of Monday-Friday 7am-4pm.

Pay Plan

This opportunity is exempt and budgeted on Pay Grade #25. We are seeking to hire between the minimum and mid-range of the pay grade, depending on qualifications.

  • Minimum: $41,704.49
  • Mid-range: $50,045.39
  • Maximum: $58,386.29

  • Cleans, repairs, and maintains roads, bridges, medians, right of ways, alleys, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and other public areas within the City.
  • Performs routine and strenuous physical tasks such as working on asphalt, loading/unloading trucks, laying pipelines, repairing manholes, patching potholes, overlaying streets, sealing cracks, removing and replacing concrete, reading grades, assisting in surveying, cutting brush, mowing, weed-eating, and maintaining street areas, installing and repairing signs.
  • Operates, repairs, and maintains various equipment and vehicles including tractors, loaders, street sweepers, bucket trucks, drills, and dump trucks.
  • Works safely near high-speed traffic areas and in close proximity to moving vehicles.
  • Identifies hazards and informs supervisors of potential issues.
  • Conducts daily inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Assists other departments as needed.
  • Adheres to safety and departmental regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must obtain a class “D” Water Distribution License from TCEQ within one year of hire or hold it already.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in water distribution, wastewater collection, street maintenance, or construction.
  • Experience operating light to heavy construction equipment.

Special Requirements

  • May need to lift up to 100 pounds.
  • May work extended hours and respond within 45 minutes for emergencies.
