Under general supervision, safely operates motorized street sweeping equipment for the purpose of cleaning City streets, gutters, and related areas to ensure and maintain public safety, City aesthetics, and quality standards; creates and maintains City sweeping schedule; performs routine preventative maintenance and repair on motor sweeping equipment; assists in the repair, maintenance, and construction of public works systems, facilities, infrastructure, grounds, and equipment; performs related duties as assigned.
Receives general supervision from Street Maintenance Supervisor. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.
This journey level classification is responsible for independently performing the full range of duties as assigned. Positions at this level exercise judgment and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

Completion of twelfth (12th) grade and two (2) years’ experience of full-time experience as a Maintenance Technician II with the City of Elk Grove OR one (1) year of full-time experience operating motorized street sweeping equipment.
This is a regular full-time position. Retired Annuitants are not eligible for appointment to this position under Government Code Sections 7522.56, 21224, 21227, and 21229. Retired CalPERS members may apply only if they are planning to voluntarily reinstate from retirement.
This position is not eligible for H-1B visa sponsorship or any other type of employment-based visa sponsorship.
Must possess mobility to work in the field; to sit, stand, and walk on level, uneven, or slippery surfaces; frequently reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, grasp and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to operate varied hand and power tools and construction equipment, and to operate a motor vehicle and visit various City sites; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work, to work in confining spaces and around machines; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment and assistance from other staff. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities who are qualified to perform essential functions of a position or positions within this classification.
Employees work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees may interact with members of the public or with staff under emotionally stressful conditions while interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
