Job summary

City of Newton is seeking a Street Maintenance Worker to join the Public Works team. Under the Street Supervisor, you will perform unskilled to semiskilled maintenance and repair of city streets and alleys, patch pavement, lay concrete and asphalt, and keep the work area clean.

This on-site role includes an on-call rotation and exposure to outdoor elements. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, a valid Kansas driver's license, LTAP and NIMS certifications within specified timelines,

Qualifications

• No prior experience required.
• Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Licenses: Valid Kansas driver's license required; LTAP certifications within one year; NIMS IS-100, 200 & 700 within six months.
• Skills: Knowledge of operating, maintaining, and following safety guidelines for equipment; ability to learn software as needed.

Responsibilities

• Patches pavement cuts and holes in streets; seals cracks and applies surface treatments.
• Operates small and medium sized trucks.
• Removes snow and ice from roadways.
• Sets up and removes work zone traffic control devices.
• Responds to after hour emergencies as needed.
