Job summary

The City of Abilene is hiring a Street Maintenance Worker I in the Public Works Department. This full-time role (40 hours/week) involves semi-skilled and unskilled labor for street, sign, flood control, and storm drain maintenance, with potential for intermittent overtime.

Under supervision, you will operate equipment, perform maintenance and repair tasks, and respond to emergencies. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, and a valid Kansas driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Entry level position; no previous experience required but preferred.

• Able to operate trucks and hand tools; read and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Performs street and curb maintenance procedures.
• Safely and effectively operate departmental equipment.
• Installs and replaces street signs and pavement markings.

• Respond to emergency call outs.
• Assists with repairs to water and sewer lines.
