Job summary

City of Leawood, Kansas is seeking a Public Works Maintenance Worker to join the Streets and Infrastructure team. This full-time role focuses on street maintenance and routine upkeep, with a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork.

You will work four 10-hour shifts, 6:00am–4:30pm, outdoors in varying weather conditions. Starting pay is $22.06–$25.00 hourly, with KPERS retirement options and benefits; no prior asphalt experience required, but the right attitude and willingness to learn are

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Preferred: experience in asphalt/concrete work, construction, or general maintenance.
• Preferred: experience operating dump trucks, rollers, or skid steers, or ability to obtain CDL.

Responsibilities

• Assist with repairs, patching, and maintenance for asphalt and concrete.
• Operate and maintain tools and equipment used in roadwork.
• Support preparation, placement, and finishing of asphalt and concrete surfaces.
• Work with crew to complete projects safely and efficiently.
• Help set up traffic control and maintain safe work zones.
• Perform routine maintenance on streets, sidewalks, and related infrastructure.
• Assist with snow removal, storm response, and other seasonal Public Works activities.
• Maintain equipment and report any issues or needed repairs.
