Job summary

The City of Sioux Falls Public Works Street Division is seeking a Street Maintenance Supervisor to lead a crew responsible for keeping streets, sidewalks, and public spaces safe and well‑maintained.

This hands‑on role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make quick decisions in a fast‑paced environment. During spring through fall, the position may follow a 4‑day work week (mid‑April to mid‑November).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus trade school; 5+ years in street/public works.
• Valid driver’s license required or obtainable before hire.
• Knowledge of street maintenance methods, equipment, and safety practices.
• Ability to lay out, direct, and supervise manual and skilled work.
• Strong communication and budgeting skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise regular and temporary employees and handle disciplinary actions and performance evaluations.
• Review crew sizes, methods, and maintenance practices for efficiency and economy.
• Assist in budget preparation and project scheduling for street projects and bids.
• Oversee street construction/repair activities including asphalt work and seal coating.
• Supervise flood control maintenance, utilities repairs, and snow/ice removal.
• Respond to citizen complaints and ensure safe public spaces.
• Perform other duties as necessary.
