Job summary

City of Garden City, KS is seeking a skilled Street Maintenance Worker to repair, maintain, and operate street and drainage systems. You will drive Street Department vehicles and heavy equipment, perform routine inspections, and log daily activities.

Responsibilities include snow and ice control, on-call responses, assisting other departments, and potential lead duties. A high school diploma and valid CDL (or ability to obtain within six months) are required; training may be provided.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate street department vehicles and heavy road equipment.
  • Complete and submit equipment, vehicle, and activity logs daily.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles; assist mechanics as needed.
  • Assist in snow and ice control operations (plowing, salting, sanding) and emergency responses.
  • Respond to on-call duties, including after-hours storm events.
  • Assist other City departments and support special events and projects.
  • May serve as work leader or provide guidance to peers as directed by Foreman.
