Job summary

The City of Montrose is seeking a Street Cleaning/Public Works worker to perform routine street sweeping and related tasks that keep streets safe and clean. You will operate a variety of equipment, assist in snow removal and maintain traffic control devices, while upholding city safety standards.

Must have a high school diploma or GED and be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Prior public works experience and knowledge of storm drain systems are a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required or preferred.
• Experience in public works operations is preferred.
• Knowledge of standard construction practices related to transportation and storm drain systems.
• Must be able to work non-standard hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine street cleaning operations to improve safety and reduce pollution.
• Clean debris from ditches, culverts and creek beds; haul trash to disposal sites.
• Possibly participate in snow removal including plowing and applying de-icing materials.
• Install and maintain traffic control devices and follow MUTCD regulations.
• Operate a wide range of equipment and perform daily safety and maintenance checks.
• Operate small power equipment as needed.
• Interact with the public in a courteous manner and report issues.
• Train lower-level staff and seasonal employees.
• Perform routine vehicle/equipment maintenance and inspections.
