Job summary

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources seeks a Stream Habitat Supervisor in Brainerd to lead statewide salmonid management and habitat projects. You'll guide staff, manage budgets, coordinate with partner agencies, and ensure projects meet funding requirements.

This role offers a flexible arrangement with up to 50% telework and a day shift from Monday to Friday, with occasional travel to meetings and site visits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology, fisheries, or closely related field.
• Four years of professional experience in fisheries biology and management, including knowledge of fish populations, fish health, aquatic biology and ecology, fish species, limnology, statistics, stream morphology, and stream habitat improvement techniques.
• Experience using databases, spreadsheets and word processing software.
• Ability to communicate effectively, coordinate projects, solve problems, and build partnerships with diverse groups to achieve shared conservation goals.
• Ability to motivate and guide staff, provide training, resolve conflicts constructively, build public support, and foster cooperation among employees, partners, and the public.
• Ability to analyze and interpret data, provide technical guidance throughout project planning and implementation, document results, and ensure projects meet established goals and funding requirements.
• Ability to establish clear goals and objectives that encourage meaningful participation from employees, community groups, stakeholders, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Lead statewide salmonid management by directing program activities and priorities.
• Oversee stream habitat improvement and dam projects to support sound biological outcomes.
• Manage statewide habitat improvement projects as principal investigator and project leader.
• Provide supervision, manage budgets and administrative functions, and build a skilled, motivated team.
• Develop regulations and legislative proposals, manage program funding, and share information with the public.
