Job summary

1898 & Co. is seeking a Transmission Planning Consultant to advance advanced studies and provide economic insights for North American clients. You will perform power flow, stability, and reliability analyses using industry tools, develop technical reports, and support business development efforts.

The role requires close collaboration with client teams, leadership of consultants, and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines. Travel is expected, and PE license is preferred.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree or equivalent with 3 years related experience.
• Master's degree in engineering or business with 2 years experience, or PhD with 1 year.
• Experience with electric utility operations, planning, or consulting.
• Experience with power system planning and operations including stability, short circuit, and voltage analysis.
• Familiarity with NERC, FERC, and regional requirements.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform a broad range of transmission studies including power flow, transient stability, transfer capability, short‑circuit, voltage analysis, harmonics analysis, and congestion management.
• Evaluate regulatory conditions and risks per NERC, FERC, and regional requirements.
• Independently execute planning studies using software like PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, Promod.
• Apply standard engineering techniques to planning procedures and criteria.
• Analyze engineering and financial data to develop client insights.
• Develop life‑cycle cost technical assumptions (CAPEX, O&M, forecasts).
• Conduct risk assessments of regulatory policies and technical constraints.
• Perform detailed financial analysis with analytics tools.
• Develop technical reports and client presentations with recommendations.
• Support project managers with deliverables, proposals, and BD efforts.
• Participate in client meetings, technical reviews, planning sessions.
