Job summary

Burke County is seeking a skilled Tax Collection Manager to lead the collection of taxes, fees, and assessments. You will supervise Tax Department staff, oversee payments, and ensure adherence to applicable tax laws in a dynamic government setting.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s in Accounting/Business, 3–5 years in tax collection, and NC-specific credentials. Valid NC Driver's License, Notary Public, and Deputy Tax Collector Certification are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or Public Administration or equivalent.
• 3–5 years experience in tax collection or related field.
• Knowledge of NC tax laws including Machinery Act and property tax.

Responsibilities

• Oversees the collection of Burke County taxes, fees, and assessments.
• Monitors delinquent accounts; processes notices and enforcement actions.
• Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
• Prepares monthly tax reports for Finance and municipalities within Burke County.
• Receives, reviews, and resolves taxpayer inquiries and issues.
• Ensures accuracy of revenues and daily financial reporting.
• Performs additional duties as required.
