Job summary

UCI Health is seeking an experienced materials management coordinator to oversee procurement, processing, and distribution of supplies across the medical center. You will optimize systems, analyze data, and ensure compliance while managing staff and departmental goals.

The role requires five+ years in supply chain management, advanced Excel and ERP skills, and strong collaboration with senior leadership to drive efficiency and cost containment.

Qualifications

• Verbal and written communication skills to communicate strategies with senior leadership; strong ability to actively listen and influence others.
• Travel between procurement office and medical center locations; additional travel up to 10%.
• Strong problem-solving skills to address issues when no precedent exists and to develop creative alternatives.
• Ability to set goals and manage the implementation process for initiatives; highly adaptable and able to manage multiple priorities.
• Forecast talent needs and encourage leadership development for succession planning.
• Position subject to the California DMV’s “Pull Notice System”; continued employment contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
• Demonstrated knowledge of procurement practices and procedures (e.g., RFP/RFI/RFQ process) and strategic vendor sourcing and negotiation techniques.
• Minimum five years of previous working experience managing organization-wide supply chain activities—procurement, inventory control, purchasing, etc.
• Interpersonal skills to maintain professional relationships with all levels of staff and coordinate supply chain activities across functions.
• In-depth knowledge of current materials management best practices and systems.
• In-depth knowledge of business subjects such as purchasing, inventory systems and controls, and/or accounting.
• Expert Excel skills.
• Comprehensive knowledge of relevant internal policy, external regulations, and best practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
• Advanced skills in the use of ERP/financial systems (e.g., Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP, etc.).
• Advanced skills in organizing, simplifying, and increasing efficiency of processes and procedures while maintaining standards and compliance.
• Ability to interpret data and make appropriate decisions for the organization using that data, including burn rate, utilization, and forecasting.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the materials management system throughout the medical center or health system.
• Ensure the efficient and cost‑effective acquisition of equipment and supplies throughout the organization.
• Manage operations of a materials management unit, implementing systems, analyzing data, and ensuring compliance.
• Manage staff using materials management techniques to maintain supplies, establish departmental goals and objectives, and ensure accountability and stewardship of resources.
• Ensure subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to internal controls and protect departmental assets.
