Job summary

Austal USA, LLC is seeking a Subcontracts professional to support the Supply Chain group in San Diego. You will help negotiate agreements for materials, parts, and services, handle day-to-day subcontract activities, and perform supplier market research and cost analysis.

The role requires 2+ years of purchasing experience, a BSBA or related degree (or equivalent), and proficiency with Excel and ERP/MRP systems. You’ll collaborate with multiple departments and may travel for supplier assessments.

Qualifications

• BSBA required; Degree in Business, Supply Chain or Material Management preferred.
• 6 years' experience may be considered in lieu of degree
• 2+ years purchasing experience required
• Complete Austal Subcontract Certificate Level I within 90 days of hire
• Requisite courses to be eligible for promotion to corresponding levels
• Material and service sourcing activities (quoting, analyzing, negotiating, supplier rationalization)
• Strong Excel skills including pivot tables and v-lookups
• Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer, Outlook; Access a plus
• ERP/MRP: IFS preferred; other ERP systems (BAAN, SAP, JD Edwards, Oracle) acceptable
• General understanding of UCC, FAR, DFARS and ITAR requirements
• Understanding of ISO/AS9100/TS16949 quality systems
• General understanding of ERP systems and MRP logic

Responsibilities

• Assist with negotiation of short and long term agreements for materials, parts, and services.
• Participate in day-to-day subcontract administration activities
• Conduct market research and supplier sourcing; basic price/cost analysis
• Issue Purchase Orders and follow up with requesters and end users
• Assist with supplier metrics and supplier performance communications
• Review statements of work, material specifications, and terms and conditions
• Elevate issues to management as needed within Supply Chain
• Liaise with suppliers on formal communications and submittals
• Coordinate with departments on subcontract related issues
• Promote continuous improvement in procurement and track spend and savings targets
• Gather information to evaluate supplier financial stability, capability, and capacity
• Maintain confidentiality of purchasing/commodity strategies
• Provide support to related departments as needed
• Conduct supplier site audits and investigations; travel as required
• Work under pressure and tight deadlines; work with minimal supervision
• Other duties as assigned by Managers
