Job summary

Lake Erie College in Painesville, OH invites applications for the full-time Bursar position. You will oversee student tuition accounts, billing, collections, and related cash handling, reporting to the Vice President of Finance.

The role requires strong knowledge of GAAP, not-for-profit accounting, and excellent customer service with the ability to work with multiple offices and external agencies. Prior bursar or student accounts experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and internal controls in accounts receivable.
• Knowledge of and understanding of applicable Federal and State laws.
• General knowledge of not-for-profit accounting and ability to research and resolve issues in student accounts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with a customer-service focus; ability to work with diverse groups.
• Detail oriented and organized with ability to meet deadlines.
• Proactive, independent, flexible, and a collaborative team player.
• Prior experience with student accounts, bursar office, or customer service industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of student tuition accounts, including billing and processing of charges.
• Coordinate with Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Life, Security and others on charges.
• Provide high-quality customer service to questions via email, phone or walk-in.
• Oversee Perkins Loan collections and other loan programs.
• Assist in managing the internal collection process and outside agencies.
• Support month-end close, reconciliations, and GL preparation relating to student accounts.
• Coordinate annual 1098-T reporting with IRS and internal departments.
• Maintain daily deposit logs and petty cash as needed.
• Update procedures related to bursar responsibilities as required.
