Job summary

Governor's Office in Helena, MT is seeking an Executive Budget Analyst to support one or more executive branch agencies in analyzing, planning, preparing, monitoring, and evaluating the state budget. You will work with multiple departments to align with the Governor’s strategic direction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field required.
• Four years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
• Alternate combinations may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

• Research current and planned appropriations, bills, reports, relevant codes, laws, and trends.
• Formulate plans for upcoming budget adjustments with legislative fiscal staff, agencies, legislators, and committees.
• Assist agencies with preparing justifications, solutions, and projections for budgetary requests and adjustments.
• Present and defend the executive budget to the legislature.
• Maintain appropriations control for state government.
• Prepare projections for unexpected changes in the budget (amendments, emergency appropriations, etc.).
• Evaluate agency budget performance to identify improvements in program effectiveness and efficiency.
• Manage the budget development process for statewide fixed costs and other proprietary funds.
