Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a seasoned Space Planner to optimize the Medical Center’s on-campus research and education spaces. You will analyze space utilization, project future needs, and partner with department leadership to define scope and program descriptions for research procedures and medical education models.

As a trusted SME to the Director, you’ll guide master planning policy, space standards, and scenario development, while supporting the capital budget process and space

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required with major course work in Architecture, Facilities Planning, Interior Design, Finance, or Strategic Planning preferred.
• 4 years of relevant healthcare or research lab planning experience required.
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills preferred.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills to maintain positive internal and external relationships preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills preferred.
• Knowledge of evidence-based design preferred.
• Use of Bluebeam and experience with space management databases preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manages the use of the Medical Center’s on-campus research and medical education space resources.
• Analyzes the effective utilization of space and the projection of future needs.
• Collaborates with Department Administrators and Health Sciences leadership to define scope and program descriptions based on research procedures, medical education models, and work processes.
• Serves as a subject matter expert to the Director regarding policy issues on the administration of space planning at the Health Sciences Campus with a focus on master planning, space standards, and scenario development.
• Evaluates requests from senior leadership for renovation, relocation, expansion or improved use of existing space and prepares program documentation.
• Prepares reports, planning programs or conceptual plans for approval by clients and directors.
