Job summary

athenahealth is seeking a Senior Manager, Strategic Sourcing to lead end-to-end sourcing initiatives with a focus on technology and professional services. You will benchmark markets, develop strategies, and guide negotiations to deliver measurable savings and optimized commercial outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Procurement, Finance, Business, or related field
• 10+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing and procurement
• Experience leading high-value sourcing initiatives and complex negotiations
• Strong financial, analytical, and commercial acumen
• Advanced knowledge of cost structures, pricing models, contracts, and category economics
• Experience with sourcing tools, procurement systems, and analytics platforms
• Deep expertise in strategic sourcing methodologies (5–7 step process)
• Advanced capability in market benchmarking, white-sheeting, and should-cost modeling
• Strong negotiation strategy development and execution skills
• Excellent stakeholder management and leadership communication

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end strategic sourcing initiatives using a structured 5–7 step process.
• Develop and execute category sourcing strategies aligned with business priorities.
• Translate business requirements into sourcing strategies balancing cost, risk, speed, and value.
• Conduct market analysis, benchmarking, and supplier landscape assessments.
• Perform benchmarking to assess pricing competitiveness and total cost of ownership.
• Develop should-cost models to decompose pricing and guide negotiations.
• Design and manage RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs; lead bid analysis and pricing comparisons.
• Ensure data-driven, defensible sourcing decisions aligned to objectives.
• Lead complex commercial negotiations in partnership with Legal and stakeholders.
• Quantify and track sourcing value including savings and cost avoidance.
• Prepare executive-ready recommendations with financial rationale and benchmarks.
• Drive continuous improvement of sourcing methodologies and tools.
