Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seeks a Chief Financial Officer to lead the district’s financial operations with integrity and transparency. Under limited supervision, the CFO will oversee budgeting, accounting, payroll, audits, and treasury functions, reporting to the Superintendent and serving on the Executive Cabinet.

The role requires strong knowledge of GAAP and public school finance, strategic planning, and the ability to guide multi-year budgets and capital projects across numerous schools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business administration or accounting.
• NC School Business Officer Certification required.
• CPA preferred.
• Equivalent combination of experience and education.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and supervise district programs.
• Oversee budgeting, purchasing, accounting, payroll, and treasury functions.
• Coordinate with external entities on financial matters.
• Develop multi-year budgets and financial plans.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and adherence to state/federal rules.
• Prepare annual budgets for all funds.
