Job summary

Fredericksburg City Public Schools is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to administer the division's business affairs and ensure excellent educational services within available resources.

The CFO will manage accounting, budgeting, audits, and financial reporting, working with the Superintendent and School Board to develop fiscally sound policies. A 12-month administrative salary scale, with eligibility for advance/future steps, is typical for this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent; five years of related admin/financial experience; master's degree preferred.
• Experience in administration and/or supervisory positions for at least five years.
• CPA or equivalent certification preferred; Munis or public school finance experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Act as agent for the School Board as provided by state law.
• Plan, organize, control and direct accounting activities; monitor fiscal health and present to the Board.
• Attend and oversee preparation of reports for all School Board meetings.
• Provide technical finance expertise to the Superintendent and assist with fiscal policies.
• Prepare or supervise audit materials and superintendent's annual school reports.
• Communicate with administrators, city staff, auditors and others to manage division activities; resolve issues.
• Assist staff in budget and accounting functions; execute journal entries and budget transfers.
• Oversee preparation of division budgets and monitor revisions after adoption.
• Monitor state and federal grant financial reports and reimbursements.
• Oversee all insurance programs including health and workers compensation.
• Oversee School Nutrition Program procurement and payroll; manage related accounting and reporting.
• Supervise and evaluate assigned staff; operate office hardware and software.
