Job summary

Dodge County Schools is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to lead financial operations, budgeting, and reporting. The CFO ensures sound internal controls and compliance with federal, state, and board policies.

The role serves as the primary financial advisor to the Superintendent and Board of Education, overseeing accounting, payroll, purchasing, and audits to safeguard public funds and optimize district resources.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, budgeting, auditing, or financial management.
• Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, payroll, purchasing, and internal controls.
• Experience supervising financial operations or personnel.
• Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and commitment to responsible stewardship of public funds.
• Ability to lift up to 20 lbs, sit for extended periods, and travel between district facilities or to off-site state meetings.

Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise all district financial operations and Finance Department personnel.
• Develop, administer, and monitor the annual district budget and long-range financial plans.
• Provide financial guidance, analyses, and recommendations to the Superintendent and Board of Education.
• Establish and enforce financial procedures, internal controls, and accountability measures.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, DOAA accounting standards, and Board policies.
• Oversee all accounting operations, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial recordkeeping.
• Ensure monthly bank reconciliations are completed on time and documented.
• Maintain separation of duties and safeguards to prevent errors or misuse of public funds.
• Direct the district's purchasing and procurement processes in accordance with laws and policies.
• Monitor budgets, encumbrances, and expenditures to ensure appropriate use of district funds.
• Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports as required.
• Coordinate budget preparation, millage rate information, and budget hearings.
• Coordinate annual financial audits and ensure audit readiness.
• Oversee federal, state, local, and special revenue funds including grants and SPLOST.
• Ensure timely submission of required financial reports to authorities.
• Supervise and develop Finance Department staff; provide guidance to principals and directors.
• Attend Board meetings and other duties as directed.
