Job summary

Cewell University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Research Development Officer to advance strategic research funding opportunities and strengthen proposal development services across the College. This role collaborates with faculty, CVM leadership, and research administration to identify funding, develop competitive proposals, and build interdisciplinary teams for new funding streams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field with 3-5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong scientific, medical, or veterinary writing skills, with experience preparing and submitting external grant proposals.
• Knowledge of research development and the proposal process, including familiarity with sponsoring agencies, electronic research administration systems, program priorities, policies, and deadlines.
• Ability to identify emerging funding opportunities, evaluate program announcements, and develop effective proposal strategies and timelines in collaboration with faculty and leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to build multidisciplinary teams and establish productive partnerships with faculty and colleagues across CVM and Cornell.
• Proven success leading research or clinical projects, with strong problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Advance strategic research funding initiatives by identifying high-value funding opportunities, developing proposal strategies, and aligning research concepts with current and emerging CVM priorities.
• Partner with faculty and leadership to develop competitive proposals, assemble interdisciplinary teams, establish timelines, and coordinate proposal development activities.
• Develop research development resources and training to strengthen faculty expertise in proposal development and increase participation in major, early-career, training grants, and other targeted funding opportunities.
• Build and maintain collaborative partnerships across Cornell and with external organizations to identify research expertise, develop interdisciplinary opportunities, and expand CVM’s external funding portfolio.
