Job summary

Cushman & Wakefield is seeking an Assistant General Counsel for the Canada/US region to provide strategic legal advice and partner with regional leadership. The role emphasizes judgment-intensive work and coordination with centralized COEs for contracts, risk, and compliance.

You will support litigation and M&A efforts, identify risks, and train teams on policy and process. A US- and Canada-focused practice, with fluency in relevant jurisdictions, is preferred.

Qualifications

• J.D. and active US bar admission; 10+ years in law firms and/or in-house roles.
• Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a matrixed organization.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills; ability to advise senior leaders.
• Experience in commercial real estate, professional services, or similar complex multinational environment is preferred.
• Fluency in French is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary legal partner for the assigned region/business and translate business strategy into legal risk assessments.
• Advise on non-routine, high-value contracts and determine escalation needs with centralized COE teams.
• Identify and escalate legal/regulatory risk to appropriate centralized groups with context and action recommendations.
• Act as business liaison for litigation matters affecting the region/business, coordinating with centralized teams and outside counsel.
• Support M&A due diligence with business context but do not lead deal structuring or document negotiation.
• Deliver periodic legal training and updates tailored to the business's operations and risk areas.
