Job summary

Actalent in Hopewell Junction, NY is seeking a Purchasing Clerk / Buyer to strategically procure materials and services for manufacturing. You will negotiate pricing, manage supplier relationships, and ensure timely delivery while aligning with quality and cost goals.

This onsite contract-to-hire role collaborates with Engineering, Operations, Production Planning, and Quality teams, uses ERP/MRP systems, and requires strong attention to detail, data entry accuracy, and a continuous improvement

Qualifications

• 5+ years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience qualifying vendors, evaluating bids, and negotiating pricing and terms.
• Experience purchasing technical, engineered, or custom-manufactured components.
• Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems for purchasing and inventory management.
• Strong negotiation skills to secure favorable pricing, terms, and delivery conditions.

Responsibilities

• Procure materials, components, supplies, and services in support of production and overall business requirements.
• Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, terms, and contract agreements to achieve cost savings and improve efficiency.
• Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure quality, delivery, and service expectations are met.
• Analyze purchase requirements, inventory levels, and demand forecasts to maintain material availability while minimizing excess inventory.
• Evaluate supplier performance using metrics and implement corrective actions when necessary.
• Source and qualify new suppliers to improve competitiveness and reduce supply chain risk.
• Expedite critical orders and resolve issues related to shortages, delays, quality, and invoices.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Quality teams regarding product changes and supplier capabilities.
• Maintain procurement records and data within ERP/MRP systems.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives in procurement and supply chain processes.
• Perform data entry and order entry tasks accurately for timely processing of purchasing documentation.
• Provide administrative support related to purchasing activities, including invoicing follow-up and pricing updates.
