Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a Public Information Officer to serve as the official spokesperson, coordinating public communications and media relations to ensure timely, accurate information while safeguarding investigations.

The role includes managing press releases, briefings, crisis communication, social media, and community outreach, with on-call duties and strict adherence to public records laws.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, criminal justice, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Prior experience in public information, communications, journalism, or media relations required.
• Valid South Carolina driver’s license with a safe driving record.

Responsabilités

• Serve as primary media contact and handle inquiries.
• Prepare, review, and disseminate press releases and statements.
• Coordinate press conferences, interviews, and media briefings.
• Ensure messaging complies with policy, legal standards, and safety priorities.
• Support recruitment and internal communications.
