Job summary

Butte County in Northern California is seeking a Communications and Public Information Officer (PIO) to lead the countywide strategic communications program, develop policy, and strengthen community engagement.

The PIO will disseminate accurate information through press releases, social media, and official channels, advise county leadership on media relations, and coordinate messaging during emergencies to ensure timely, factual public communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public administration, journalism, marketing, communications, public relations, political science, or a related field; and Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in public communications, public relations, marketing, or communications strategy, with at least one (1) year of experience within a public agency preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the County’s public information and strategic communications program; advise leadership on media relations and messaging; develop content for websites and social media; coordinate with departments and external stakeholders; prepare materials and scripts for information dissemination; serve as primary spokesperson during emergencies and public events.
