Job summary

Clayton County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Sheriff Public Information Officer to develop and manage public information and education programs, reporting to the Sheriff.

The PIO will coordinate with media, monitor social channels, prepare releases, and represent the department at events, interviews, and public forums, with a focus on accurate, timely communication.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field and at least four years of public relations experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus four years of public relations experience.
• Experience planning and organizing large events and functions.
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience accepted.

Responsibilities

• Liaises with Sheriff’s Department and external agencies to maintain partnerships.
• Notifies media of developing stories and emergency responses; prepares press releases.
• Monitors and manages the department's official social media presence.
• Be available on a 24-hour basis by telephone.
• Develops and maintains a current media contact list.
• Monitors media developments affecting the department and county image.
• Represents the Sheriff at civic or business functions.
• Conducts live and pre-recorded interviews for news features.
• Prepares speaking points for public programs.
• Implements quality improvement by analyzing data and trends.
• Monitors expenditures and assists with budget recommendations.
