Job summary

Ramsey County is hiring a Public Information Officer (PIO/Communications Manager) to create, implement and oversee communications programs that effectively promote the work across several departments.

The role leads a CPR department team, advises county leadership, handles media relations, crisis communications, and develops comprehensive public information plans for diverse audiences and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Five years experience in public relations, marketing or a related field.
• Two years experience in a public (governmental) setting is desired.
• Equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• Examination process will consist of a training and experience rating.

Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee public information plans and strategies; coordinate gathering and analysis of demographic and market information.
• Oversee development of electronic, print, audio and visual materials.
• Coordinate and oversee the organization’s presence on the internet and other electronic media.
• Develop communications pieces for the public, employees and other audiences via web content, newsletters, fact sheets, intranet, newspapers, media, and other channels.
• Advise senior leadership on policies, procedures and protocol for public relations.
• Produce informational products with outside vendors, translate materials as needed, and arrange distribution of materials regionally.
