Job summary

Ramsey County is seeking a Public Information Officer (PIO/Communications Manager) to lead communications programs across multiple county departments. The role builds and guides strategy, messaging, and media engagement, while coaching a team of communications associates and specialists.

The PIO collaborates with county leadership on high-profile issues, develops materials, and ensures consistent messaging across internal and external audiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in English, journalism, marketing, communications, education or a related field.
• Five years experience in public relations, marketing or a related field.
• Two years experience in a public (governmental) setting is desired.
• Substitution: Equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• Certifications/Licensure: None.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement public information plans and strategies for increasing public awareness of services and accomplishments.
• Oversee the development of electronic, print, audio and visual materials.
• Coordinate and oversee the organization’s presence on the internet and other electronic media.
• Serve as liaison with media/press representatives and coordinate with leadership on official statements.
• Advise senior leadership on policies, procedures, and protocol with respect to public relations.
